Siting….placing the home at the downside of the slope directs air movement across the pool in the early morning to cool the exterior skin and air flush the home with cooler air while in the evening it draws air up from the gullies and crevices below the home on the leeward side of the mountain to create an air curtain over the exterior face to dissipate any heat accumulation on the exterior skin. Black Steel…selection was based on both how the material would create an “image” of a shadow on the hillside while also selecting a material with an extremely high dissipation factor. The material will not hold the heat and will offset the heat very quickly creating air currents across the face and lessening heat buildup in the home. Curvature of the exterior wall will also increase the air currents along the face of the wall to reduce heat absorption. Behind the black steel an air pocket provides a barrier to the exterior wall which is foam filled insulation and penetration sealants to limit air infiltration of the home. Interior finishes have been sourced to remove toxins from the interior environment of the home.
